Muscat, March 6th 2015 – Under the patronage of Her Highness Sayyida Basma Al Said,Almouj Golf and Ghala Golf Club have successfully organised and for the first time in Oman’s golf history, a two-day Ladies Open, the BMW Muscat Ladies Open 2016. The event featured a 36 Hole Stableford Competition and an Academy 9 Hole Competition. Some of the Sultanate’s and the region’s best female golfers were also recognised during the prize giving ceremony.
Beginning with an 8:30am shotgun start, over 40 participants turned out for the competition. Jameela Daud took the Stableford competition with a score of 76, while Yvonne Welling was runner-up with a score of 73. The tournament’s gross winner was Lynn Casey recording a gross 148, with Sanjoli Singh securing the runner-up position with a gross 171. The Academy Competition saw the team of Delaney Leigh, Fiona Burke and Jumana Ibrahim with 64 points as Leigh claimed the Academy Best Individual Score with 28 points.
“We organised the BMW Muscat Ladies Open 2016 to grow and develop ladies golf not only in Oman but also in neighbouring GCC countries. We are proud to provide a platform for women to enjoy the timeless game, while develop and nurture their skills, whether amateur golfers or those with a registered handicap,” said Mubarak Hill, Club Manager of Almouj Golf. “Joining forces with Ghala Golf Club, we offered ladies from both clubs the chance to have a unique opportunity of playing both courses and enjoy what each has to offer.”

The traditional Muscat Ladies Open is always held at Ghala Golf Club. This year’s edition was extended to two days of play to include Almouj Golf, offering female golfers more challenges in two of Oman’s biggest clubs. The two golfing destinations were also part of the unique Summer Golf Passport initiative in 2015, adding extra levels of excitement and convenience for the golfing community. In addition to title sponsors, BMW, the 2016 Open was sponsored by Muscat Laser Eye Centre, Amouage and Patchi. The two-day event was concluded with a Ladies Cocktail Party, which was also held in association with Desert River, Lily Rose and Waxy Hand.
