July 13th 2013 - With the recent start of Ramadan and the increasing summer temperatures The Chedi Muscat Monthly Medal for July was modified a little from its regular format. The competition was still run as a strokeplay event meaning that every hole had to be completed and that every stroke counted, but in the giving spirit of Ramadan each player received a single mulligan allowing them to replay a shot of their choice for free. In an extra effort to ensure that all players enjoyed their experience the men were moved forwards slightly from their usual blue starting tees to the whites, ladies stepped forwards from the red tees to the golds.

With recent work on the Championship Course paying dividends and the temperatures staying on the slightly low side of the seasonal average there was a good opportunity for someone to post an admirable winning score.

Off in the first group of the day with a clear course in front of them were husband and wife duo Edward and Louise Daly, playing off a handicap of 1 Edward made short work of the front 9 before dropping a few shots on the inward 9 for a gross total of 77, this was not to be beaten for the rest of the day giving Edward the Best Gross Score for July. Louise also played well returning a net 78 which took the Ladies Net runner up spot, the pair completed the course in just under 3 hours which was an additional achievement to be proud of.

Following the first group was Yvonne Welling who added to her fine performance in the Summer Open last week with a net 76, this score secured Yvonne with the Best Ladies Net for July and also thanks to the only two recorded on the day and added bonus of the two's pot of golf balls.

In the penultimate group was recently in form Keith Harvey who had won the Summer Open the week before with fine rounds at both Muscat Hills and Almouj Golf. Keith playing off a handicap of 14 continued his consistent play with an outward 9 of gross 42 followed with an inward 9 of 40 for an 18 hole total of 82, net 68. This was sufficient to win the Best Net for July by two shots over the upcoming Hugo Fonseca.
