Almouj Golf Hosts Golf Competition for Members

28 December 2011Back

Almouj Golf held its first members tournament since opening the 9 hole PGA Championship links-style course at the beginning of the month, in the interests of encouraging camaraderie and friendly competitiveness.

Players were in excellent spirits as they arrived at the course for registration after which some of the competitors moved to the driving range for an early morning warm-up before taking to the fairways.  There was a full turnout with 36 players in teams of 4, all eager to take part and in place on the course for a prompt Shot Gun Start.

A "Scramble" competition is played under slightly different rules than a regular Shot Gun start. The rules state that each team member will hit the ball from the tee at the start of the hole in the normal way. Once all teams have hit their first shot they identify which ball has the best position.  The second shots for all the members of that team will then be taken from the point identified as the best position. This method of play continues until all the players in the teams have finished the hole, they then progress to the next and so on until the end of the tournament.

The competition, which was played over the course of four hours, was followed by a light Christmas lunch and an informal prize-giving ceremony.  The winners, with a score of 62.6 were Yvonne Welling, Jamie Wilson, Edward Daly and Louise Daly. Coming a close 2nd with a score of 61.1 were Iain Liversage, Stuart Ingram, Aaron O'Hara and Troy Heart.

St John Kelliher, General Manager at Almouj Golf commented, "This was the first members tournament to be held at Almouj Golf and the Festive Scramble proved to be a most successful and enjoyable event.  It is very satisfying to see our members out on the course together, competing against each other but also having great fun and embracing the spirit of the occasion."

Almouj Golf are developing a comprehensive program of members tournaments for 2012 and a full schedule is expected to be released early in the new year for both professionals and beginners.
