Ryder Cup Comes to Oman?!
With the 39th Ryder Cup underway in
Chicago it was Almouj Golf's turn to pay tribute to the best
golfing event in the calendar with its very own Ryder Cup
Like the main event itself the Almouj Members would be
participating in three disciplines over 27 holes; players started
by playing the first 9 holes of the Championship Course as
Foursomes, a format where a players take alternate shots to
complete the hole. Once the front 9 had been completed the back 9
holes were played as Fourball, this is where the best score from
the pairing counts on each hole. The final leg of the Ryder Cup
journey was taken without the support of a partner by playing 9
holes individually on the floodlit Academy Par 3 Course.
In the alternate shot, Foursomes format it was husband and wife
duo Steve and Anne Morris who triumphed over the other pairings by
managing to accumulate a very impressive 19 points.
Moving to the back 9 holes Danny Renihan and Kim Davis found
form to rebound from their slightly disappointing 15 point front 9
with a phenomenal 25 point back 9. This score was good enough to
see them win the leg by 2 points over Catherine Shackleton and
Yvonne Welling and cumulatively put them in the lead with 40 points
over the Championship Course.
After a short but welcome break back at the Academy Clubhouse
the players embarked on foot for their final challenge; 9 holes
over the Academy Par 3 Course. Despite only receiving an allowance
of 25% of their handicaps the scoring was very good with over half
of the field scoring 18 points or better. The winning score of 20
points was achieved by three players but it was Anne Morris who
ultimately came out on top to win after a back 6 count back.
The overall winner for the day was crowned by adding the
Stableford scores from all three disciplines, the honour went to
Danny Renihan who accumulated 40 points with partner Kim Davis and
then individually added 19 points from the Academy Par 3
A great afternoon was had by all, especially Susan Sargent who
recorded the Academy Par 3 Course's first hole in one on hole
number 8, congratulations Susan!
