National Day Greensomes November 2012

15 November 2012Back

Almouj Golf joined in the celebrations to mark the 41st National Day of Oman, paying tribute to His Majesty.

A greensomes format requires teams of two, where both players tee off, the best shot is selected and the hole is then competed in a foresomes  (alternate shots) format.  Teams received 50% of their combined course handicaps, and scoring was in a stableford format.

Alternate shots proved to be a tricky format, as just two of the teams in the field were able to better par.  With a tie for third place on 36 points, Robert Daniel and Mike Reid edged husband and wife duo Alina and Etienne Jambeau, beating them on the back 9 holes.  The Jambeau's looked strong with 19 points on the front 9, however it was the small mistake on the final hole that cost them a position on the winner's podium.  After displaying their frustrations from a disappointing back 9 holes, which prevented them competing for the top spot, the two familiar names of Mike Bulliman and Adrian Bain settled for second place with 37 points.

Continuing their success from the summer season, the formidable pairing of Ed and Louise Daly with a total of 40 points secured a comfortable victory over the field.  Demonstrating that consistency is the key to a successful greensomes team, scoring 20 points across both 9's, their impressive statistics of 12 par's, one birdie and an eagle on the Par 5 3rd hole is no mean feat.

The overall scores were as follows:

No. Name Points
1 Ed & Louise Daly 40
2 Adrian Bain & Mike Bulliman 37
3 Robert Daniel & Mike Reid 36
4 Etienne & Alina Jambeau 36
5 Yvonne Welling & Sarah Morris 25

To celebrate 1 year of golf there will be a 3 player Scramble on the 30th November, play will commence with an 8am shotgun start and you can enter as a team of 3 players or allow us to pair you up with other individuals.
