Almouj Golf Celebrates its First Birthday with a Scramble
Having initially opened its doors almost
12 months ago to the day Almouj Golf celebrated its First Birthday
with a Members Scramble on the 30th November. The
Scramble format allows teams of three to compete by selecting the
best tee shot on each hole and then all team members play the next
shot from the chosen position, this continues until the hole is
completed. To ensure that everyone was involved it was necessary
for each member of the team to contribute 4 tee shots over the
course of 18 holes. The handicap allowance for the team was exactly
10% of their combined course handicaps, this would be deducted from
the 18 hole gross score to give the final net team score.
Ten teams of three players assembled for the 8am shotgun under
conditions that can only be described as perfect, the previous
day's rain had softened the course a little and although further
rain had been forecast there was not a breath of wind.
The scoring as you would expect from a format of this type was
very good with four of the ten teams breaking par prior to the
handicap deduction. Setting the early pace were regular Scramble
participants Ahmed Kamel, Mohammed Fauzi and Nasaruddin Mohammed
whose gross 70 with a combined team handicap of 43 gave them a net
65.7. Bettering this score by just 0.2 with a gross 69, net 65.5
was the team of Edward Daly, Louise Daly and Steven Morris.
The two top teams on the day could not be separated over
regulation play as each scored an identical net 64.6. William
Welsh, Kevin D'Amours and John Prescott starting from hole 17
carded a very fine gross 69 with a combined team handicap of 44,
their round consisted of 15 pars and three gross birdies all of
which came in succession on the front 9. The next team with 64.6
was that of Michael Lenarduzzi, Aaron O'Hara and Jamie Wood who
despite dropping a shot at their final hole managed to card six
gross birdies for a total of 67 less their team handicap of 24.
With the two scores tied the result went to the back 9 holes where
the team of Lenarduzzi, O'Hara and Wood recorded a net 32.8 edging
out Welsh, D'Amours and Prescott with their 33.8.
The overall results were as follows;
