Beat the Management!

Almouj Golf Members had the chance this week to 'Beat the Management'! In teams of 3 the players contested a medal in scramble format where each team received 10% of their combined handicaps.

A scramble is where all players hit a shot, select the best outcome and then all hit the next shot from this location, this process continues until the hole is completed. To ensure that all members of the team were involved there was the requirement that each player to contribute at least 5 tee shots over the course of 18 holes.

As you would expect the with a competition of this format the scoring was very good with 4 of the 7 teams breaking net level par. The team of Aaron O'Hara, Stuart Ingram and Craig Hardie produced a flawless gross 67 which included 5 birdies and 13 pars, with their combined handicap of 42 giving them an allowance of 4.2 shots their net total of 62.8 set the standard to beat.

The Management team of Louise Daly, Steve Johnson and Jamie Wood were determined to put in a good showing and not allow too many of the members groups bragging rights due to the result. Things looked questionable after a bogey at the very first hole but the team rallied and didn't look back posting a grand total of 9 gross birdies over the remaining 17 holes. Their total of gross 64 with an allowance of 3.2 meant that their net score of 60.8 was good enough to sit atop the leaderboard.

The feedback from all players was that the event was a success. The format allowed all players the opportunity to compete and the minimum of 5 tee shots ensured that the score was genuinely a team effort. Special mention should go to the condition of the golf course which was fantastic, a great sign of things to come for the impending season.
