Almouj Golf Official Opening Members Golf Day
To mark the occasion of Almouj Golf's Official Opening there was
a Golf Day held for Members and select invitees on Sunday 30th
September. Players arrived from 6:30am to be greeted by an
immaculately presented golf course which only a few hours earlier
had played host to the Official Opening Ceremony.
Once the players had registered and changed into their match
shirts they were treated to a fantastic breakfast buffet before
making their way to the putting green for a group photograph with
their special guest for the day; two time Major Champion, former
World Number 1, winner of 91 Professional Tournaments Worldwide,
and designer of the Championship Course at Almouj Golf, Greg
The interaction with the course designer didn't end there as Mr
Norman graciously made time in his busy schedule to host each group
on hole number 2 of the Championship Course where he conducted a
unique 'Beat the Pro' experience.
Running alongside the Championship Course Competition was an
event on the Academy Par 3 Course. Almouj Golf recognises that not
all of its members hold official handicaps and that developing the
game across the region is a very important objective and a legacy
that Almouj Golf would like to contribute to. Because of this the 9
hole Academy Course Competition did not focus on the score achieved
but instead prizes were given for 'nearest the pin' on three holes
as well as three additional prizes from a blind card draw. Winners
on the Academy Par 3 Course were Nayyar Ali, Jo Stewart, Mohamed
Ferdaus, Melanie Maltby, Richard Willshaw and Amanda Reijmer.
The Championship Course Competition was hotly contested with
many Stableford scores over the level par mark of 36 points. On
course there were two competitions running, winning the longest
drive on the Par 5 7th hole was Robert Daniel whilst nearest the
pin on the tricky island green 14th went to Etienne Jambeau.
After a count back to separate a four way tie for third place it
was OGC Board Member Nikhil Sampat who claimed the voucher and Greg
Norman signed mini tour bag, Mike Bulliman playing off a handicap
of 6 produced a very steady round to claim second spot and a Greg
Norman signed driver but it was Catherine Shackleton who finished
at the head of the pack with a fine 39 points to take the winners
voucher and a Greg Norman signed TaylorMade tour bag. Catherine's
name will also become the first on the Greg Norman Anniversary
Trophy which will be presented to the winner of the opening
tournament each season at Almouj Golf.
