4 Man Gold Tee Scramble

28 June 2013Back

A late addition to the summer tournament calendar was the 4 man gold tee scramble.  Playing from the forward gold tees the course measures just 5581 yds a total of 1,729 yds shorter than its maximum length.  The course was certain to offer up some birdie opportunities...

A free competition and offered as a roll-up for members to play at any time throughout the day, conditions remained consistent with both morning and afternoon starters facing a stiff breeze.  The front 9 was playing a couple of stokes easier compared with the final 4 holes into the wind on the back 9, where seemingly par was a good score.  A team handicap using 10% of the combined course handicaps from the gold tees was allocated to each group.  For those at a disadvantage with just 3 players an average handicap was calculated for the 4th person to allow for a fair net result.

Both afternoon teams posted solid rounds of 64 and 65 both equalling a net 59.9.  However the team of Catherine Shackleton, Ed and Louise Daly claimed second spot on countback with a gross 30 on their final 9 holes.  Out of the blocks early, both in start time and form, was the team of Keith Harvey, Andy Basson, Andrew Barrett, and Iain Watters.  For a team with an average handicap of 16 an impressive gross 63 consisting of 9 birdies and 9 pars across the 18 saw them sail to the victory with a net 56.7.  Congratulations to all 4 gentlemen who will receive a prize courtesy of Almouj Golf.
