Mercedes-Benz Member Guest Event

26 April 2013Back

Runners Up Michael Lenarduzzi Leon Patchett And Liam McauliffeFriday 26th April saw the second in a new series of events at Almouj Golf. As Corporate Partners Mercedes-Benz have been key supporters of Almouj Golf since its inception in December 2011 with the annual Matchplay Championships being run under their sponsorship. In a continued effort to increase participation in both competitive and social golf Almouj Golf with the support of Mercedes-Benz have introduced the Mercedes-Benz Member Guest Series. The first event in the series which was held in March was a Better Ball Stableford where each Almouj Member could invite a guest to join them on the Championship Course. As if that wasn't generous enough Mercedes-Benz raised the bar one step higher for April by offering each Almouj Member the opportunity to invite two guests to make up a three player scramble team.

With 24 scramble teams of 3 the field of 72 players took to the course, it would be fair to say that the early starters had by far the best of the weather. Although the high winds stayed away the rain that had been present for most of the week revisited the links for the later part of the tournament.

Winners William Welsh Chris Hanks And Peter BellThanks to Mercedes-Benz kind support the rewards for completing the course in challenging conditions went down to 4th position. Taking the 4th spot and a Mercedes-Benz gift set were Almouj Golf Member Kevin D'Amours, and guest David Rebello and Henry Hunebery. Their score of gross 69, net 64.3 was the best of the later starters. In third place with a gross 68, net 63.6 were Almouj Golf Members Danny Renihan, Keith Harvey and guest Nick Hill each earning a set of bottle stoppers for their efforts. In runner up position narrowly finishing ahead of their nearest rivals were Almouj Golf Member Michael Lenarduzzi and guests Leon Patchett and Liam Mcauliffe who's score of gross 68, net 63.4 was rewarded with a very fine Mercedes-Benz hamper each.

Taking the top spot on the day and receiving a wonderful Mercedes-Benz wrist watch each were the first group to take to the course that morning. 2013 Almouj Golf Men's Captain William Welsh partnered prospective Almouj Golf Members Chris Hanks and Peter Bell in a fantastic round of gross 64, once the combined handicaps of 18, 7 and 6 were deducted their net total of 60.9 saw them head the table by some margin. The round of 64 included no dropped shots and 8 birdies, quite some feat when you consider that each player had to contribute a minimum of 5 drives each over the course of the 18 holes.

Thanks to the support of Mercedes-Benz the Member Guest Series will continue with the next event already scheduled for the 31st May. The format for the follow up event will be a two player scramble with each Almouj Golf member being entitled to invite a handicap holding guests to join them.
