Shark Stableford Match Report

2013-01-25 Shark Stableford Match ReportThis competition gave our members an opportunity to experience the course through the eyes of the golf course designer and former world number 1 Greg Norman.

The benefit of having such a well-designed golf course is its flexibility when it comes to altering the level of difficult on a day-to-day basis.  This week the course was set up the way Greg Norman would have visualised it when designing the Championship Golf Course.  The tee markers were positioned to change the tack from the tee boxes, encouraging some different course management strategies and shot making to be adopted in order to make a good score.

The relatively small field went out to compete in an individual stableford format.  The scores suggested that the 'Shark' course certainly made the course somewhat more difficult than usual.  Nevertheless with a solid back nine of 18 points, Steve Morris claimed 3rd spot with 33 points.  Using his shots to his advantage, Moez Madhavji posted two consistent 9's to post 34 points, which was good enough for the runners up spot.  However the only golfer to play to his handicap today with two equally goods 9 holes of 18 points, was Iain Watters.  Congratulations to Iain on winning the Shark Stableford, Iain's first solo win here at Almouj Golf.

In a side competition Louise Daly and Kevin D'Amours both won 2 sleeves of golf balls for scoring a 2 on their round.

The overall scores were as follows;

No. Name Points
1 Iain Watters 36
2 Moez Madhavji 34
3 Steve Morris 33
4 Stephen Barratt 30
4 John Prescott 30
4 Shirley Prescott 30
4 Keith Harvey 30

The next competition will be held on Friday 8th February.  Playing in teams of three this event will be a Stableford format where all 3 scores count on the Par 3 holes, the best 2 scores will count on the Par 4s and the best score will count on Par 5s. Play will commence with an 8am shotgun allowing you to be back in time for the Friday brunch if you wish.
