US Open Better Ball

14 June 2013Back

WinnersTo mark the second major tournament of the year on the global golfing calendar, Almouj Golf hosted their very own US Open Better Ball competition.  In teams of two the golfers followed a Stableford scoring format selecting the best score on each hole.

With a total of 32 golfers 13 of the 16 groups scored above the par of 36 points for their rounds, however in this particular format much higher scores are required to come into the prize winner's circle.  The earlier groups suggested scoring for the day was going to be difficult with 43 points being the best returned by William Welsh and Danny Renihan.  A short while later two cards both with 47 points was returned by the teams of Ahmed Kamel with Ramly Manja and Keith Harvey with Andrew Basson.  After a tie on the back 9, second place was awarded to Keith and Andrew, the deciding factor being the net Ahmedeagle on hole 15 by Keith separating the
two cards on countback of the last 6 holes.  The winning duo came from Mike Reed and Rob Daniels with a tremendous 50 stableford points.  The impressive score consisted of 4 net eagles and a net albatross on the Par 5 12th from Mike Reed boosting their score with 5 points from this hole alone!

Prizes were awarded to the top three teams at the presentation after the event.  The top scores were as follows:

No. Name Name Score Comments
1 Mike Reed Robert Daniel 50
2 Keith Harvey Andy Basson 47 On Countback
3 Ahmed Kamel Mahmud Ramly Manja 47
4 Nasaruddin Mohamad Mohammed Fauzi Adnan 46
5 William Welsh Danny Renihan 43
6 Yvonne Welling Mark Duffin 42

The next event on the Summer Calendar will be GB & I vs Rest of the World on Saturday 22nd June. This will be a fun event hosted by our Captains inviting all our members to battle head to head in a singles Matchplay event.  Teams are split by nationality which I'm sure will encourage the competitive juices to flow.
