Almouj Golf Swiss Air Par 3 League Series 2 Final

11 June 2013Back

With the previous 6 weeks of qualifying complete the final 10 assembled for the Series 2 Final of the Almouj Golf Swiss Air Par 3 League.

Following the same format as Series 1, the League had run for 6 weeks with the players all competing over the Academy Par 3 Course using 25% of their course handicaps, each week after play there was a buffet served on the Academy Terrace followed by a prize giving. As the weeks progressed the tournament began to gain moment as we edged closer to the final, with some solid final rounds bringing outsiders into the top 10. Once again the pressure mounted as the two Business Class flights to Dubai courtesy of event sponsors Swiss Air hung in the balance!

After prequalifying just 8 strokes separated the top 5 golfers, proving to be a closely fought competition thus far, setting up for an interesting finale! Regardless of prequalifying scores, all competitors entered the final on an even keel with equal opportunity to clinch the title.  A three-way tie came in for the second lowest net with all 3 players posting a net 26.  After careful consideration on the countback of the last 6, 3 and 1 hole nothing there was still nothing between Robert Daniel and Johan Keyter for third place.  The prize was eventually awarded to Robert Daniel as the two names were drawn from a hat.  A birdie 2 at the 6th hole was responsible for setting aside the third member in the tie Nick Smith, who took second place winning on countback over the last 6 holes.  Favourite heading into the final after leading prequalifying, Lee O'Donoughe did not disappoint as he recorded 8 pars and 1 bogey on his way to a net 25, taking the honours and business class tickets.

On conclusion of play all competitors were treated to a fantastic buffet served up by Almouj Golf's Head Chef Sadek before the prizes were distributed, in addition to the Business Class flights there were also flight covers and golf balls for the top 3 players.

Many thanks to the on-going support of Swiss Air once again, and look out for this fixture continuing later on in the year.
