The Chedi Muscat Monthly Medal March 2013
Hot on the heels of the 17th GCC
Championships the links course at Almouj Golf once again presented
itself for the March edition of The Chedi Muscat Monthly
The greens were running a little quicker than normal and
although for the week of the GCC Championships the coastal wind had
abated it was back in full force for the field of Members on the
morning of the Medal.
Out in the very first group playing alongside the Club Captain
William Welsh, Danny Renihan set a net target of 76 which was not
bettered for the rest of the day. Danny's round was steady with
halves of 48 and 45 giving him a gross total of 93 net 76. Two
gross birdies on the inward 9 holes offset a triple bogey 7 at the
challenging 18th hole.
The gross title was more a case of attrition rather than
spectacular golf, the wind had increased in strength through the
morning meaning every group on the course had to meet the challenge
at some point. Ultimately it was 5 handicapper Aaron O'Hara who
kept his head and succumbed to the conditions the least taking the
title with a gross 88.
Joining the winner's enclosure for the first time this season in
the Ladies Division was Ladies Captain Kim Davis. Playing off a
Course Handicap of 26 Kim was off to a great start with an outward
9 holes of 48, despite struggling a little in the mid part of the
back 9 Kim brought her score home to record a net 77, good enough
to finish one shot ahead of her nearest rival Sarah Morris.
Despite the challenging conditions there were three two's posted
on the day, one belonged to Tracey O'Donoghue at the
17th hole while the other pair of two's belonged to
Geetesh Tamse who managed to birdie both the 2nd and
4th holes, unfortunately these two holes sandwiched an
11 at the Par 5 3rd hole.
The overall scores were as follows;

The next event in the Almouj Golf calendar is the Club
Championships to be played over the weekend of the 14th
and 15th March.
