The Chedi Muscat Monthly Medal May 2013
the tournament scene at Almouj Golf holding strong despite the
increasing temperatures The Chedi Muscat Monthly Medal for May was
the final chance of the season to book a qualifying spot in the
season ending Tournament of Champions.
As always the Championship Course at Almouj Golf looked
fantastic and whilst the extreme weather of the week before had
caused much damage to the surrounding area the course itself
definitely appreciated the out of season downpours. With the threat
of wind and rain still present the course was set up in a more
generous fashion than normal, however the conditions for the day
stayed fairly sublime which allowed for some very good scoring.
Thanks to the on-going support of The Chedi Muscat all players had
the extra incentive of the Almouj Golf Friday Carvery to look
forward to on conclusion of their rounds!
Hot on the heels of winning the Almouj Golf Club Championships,
the gross title in the April Medal and a good showing in the
inaugural Black Tee Challenge Tenzin Tsarong playing off a handicap
of 3 set the early pace with an outstanding gross 73, net 70.
Despite closing the front 9 holes with a bogey at the
8th and a double bogey at the 9th Tsarong
rallied well with a solid back 9 of 8 pars and a solitary birdie at
the signature 14th hole to record a fine 1 under par 35.
Tsarong's round was ultimately good enough to take the gross title
by 5 strokes.
Joining the winner's enclosure for the
first time this season in the net division was Ramly Manja who's
gross 81 off a handicap of 17 gave him a fantastic net total of 64,
the second best winning net score of the season. Once again Manja
played steadily over the front 9 holes but it was on the inward 9
that his scorecard began to take shape, with two holes to play
Manja was level par gross for the back 9. Despite 2 closing bogeys
Manja's back 9 of 38 saw him take the net title and also book his
spot in the season ending Tournament of Champions. Runner Up by a
stroke playing off a handicap of 13 was John Prescott.
Revisiting the winner's enclosure for the fourth time this
season in the Ladies Net division was Yvonne Welling, following the
evident trend Welling produced a steady front 9 of 48 and better it
by 3 shots on the return 9 with 45, Welling's total of 93 playing
off a handicap of 21 produced a net 72 which was good enough to see
of her nearest rival Catherine Shackleton by two shots. To
underline the great scoring conditions there were a record seven
two's posted on the day, both Tenzin Tsarong and Aaron O'Hara
recorded a pair each and the remaining three were scored by Peter
Willmott, Ahmed Kamel Mahmud and John Prescott.
The top 10 scores were as follows;
