January 11th 2014 saw the first Monthly Medal of the New Year. With the Oman Golf Committee Order of Merit stating to take shape all players were keen to add valuable points to their existing tally in an effort to move up the table.

With the Championship Course in fantastic condition and the greens running fast and true the stage was set for what was sure to be another hotly contested event. The weather presented somewhat of a challenge for the competitors with a stiff breeze and many players unusually wearing extra layers of clothing!

In the Ladies Net division it came down to a back 9 countback to decide the winner with both Susan McInnes and Yvonne Welling posting net 80's. Ultimately it was Susan who had the better back 9 holes by a single stroke over Yvonne to take the title.

The Men's Net section was also a tight affair with a countback again required to separate the runner up spot with both Lee O'Donoghue and John Prescott scoring net 79's. Each had their struggles over the closing holes but it was O'Donoghue who prevailed to take the prize. The winning Net score was a little more clear cut with Kevin D'Amours returning a well-played net 74 off a handicap of 11. As is often the key Kevin's round was cemented by fine play on the Par 3 holes where he posted 3 gross pars and a gross birdie at the iconic island green 14th hole.

Despite good play through the field the undisputable story of the day was the welcome return to the winners enclosure for 5 handicap Tenzin Tsarong, having been conspicuous by his absence in recent events Tenzin recaptured his form to score an almost flawless one over par gross 73 in challenging conditions. Tenzin's round was well-balanced with a front 9 of 37 and a back 9 of 36 which included only two dropped shots which he comfortably reciprocated with two birdies.

The top 10 scores were as follows:
