03 January 2014Back

Friday 3rd January -To mark the first golf event of 2014 the traditional New Year's Scramble drew a large field for the time of year with 33 golfers.  The course was once again presented in fine condition with the slick greens measuring over 10 on the stimp meter.

Enjoying some fine golf the top 6 teams all posted sub-par net scores along the way.  Yvonne Welling won Nearest the Pin on hole 4 with a fantastic approach to the difficult par 3.  The third best score third with a solid gross 69 was the team of Nathan Kendall, Catherine Shackleton and Kim Davis.  A score consisting of 5 gross birdies on their way to recording a net 63.9.  Equaling the winning gross score of 65 the team of Stuart Ingram, Iain Liversage and Andy Jones had to settle for runners up spot after an early birdie streak of 7 in 9 holes saw them finish with a net 61.3, a strong score and unfortunate to not have a foot on the winner's podium this week.  Topping the field in the New Year's Scramble was Aaron O'Hara, Ron Boons and Mike Reed with an impressive net 59.8, breaking that allusive 60 barrier to seal the victory.  Congratulations to all who took part on what was a very enjoyable day.

The next competition in the Almouj Calendar sees the return of The Chedi Medal on Saturday 11th January.
