Welcome To The Members Area
Our Club Captain
I am honoured to take on the role of men’s captain this year. Together with the ladies’ captain (Andrea), the vice-captains and with the support of Marcus and his team, I hope we are able to continue to take the club forward. I would also like to offer my thanks to Sabri for everything he did for the club as men’s captain last year.
I am now in my fifth year as a member of Al Mouj and although I still find the course a challenge (although I think this might be more to do with my skill level than the course), every time I play, I can see why it has won so many awards in such a short space of time. Needless to say, it started with a great design (although I have often cursed Greg Norman when playing – especially the 16th), but a great deal of credit must go to Steve Johnson and his team for keeping the course in such excellent condition. Nevertheless, I am always disappointed when I notice the bankers have not been raked, divots have not been repaired and litter has been discarded. I would ask all members, and visitors, to help keep Al Mouj as one of the region’s premier golf clubs by leaving the course in the same condition as you would like to find it.
If you have any suggestions about how we can take the club forward, please do not hesitate to contact/approach me, Andrea, the vice-captains or Marcus.
Our Lady Captain
I am really excited and proud to be elected as the Ladies’ Captain for 2019 because I represent so many women who enjoy golf and spending time together at Al Mouj Golf Club. I am also delighted to welcome my Vice-Captain, Sian Bedson, who shares my vision of making golf more accessible and sociable to all levels of lady golfers in Oman.
As a local Club with the largest active and social ladies’ section, one of our main objectives for 2019 is to retain our current membership for 2020 and we therefore need your feedback and ideas to help improve your membership experience and encourage others to join. We want to entice more women to come and try golf and we look to our current members to spread the word and invite friends, colleagues, daughters and mothers to join us for trial lessons.
From a competitive point of view, the Al Mouj Ladies’ section is ahead of other clubs in Oman. Having retained the Ladies Interclub Championship Cup in 2018, we are committed to retaining it for 2019 and encourage all our lady members to be part of this success.
Building on the success of last year, we had more Al Mouj lady members playing in the OHI Oman Amateur Ladies Open In February, with all our ladies qualifying for the second day. Our former professional, Lynn Casey, retained her title for the 4th time and new member, Hsien Powers, took the nett prize in her first competition in Oman, Also, our only female Junior Tara Gill won 3rd place in the short course competition – all of which were inspirational results.
As a relative beginner who began playing golf three years ago on Al Mouj’s Academy Par 3 Course, another priority will be to continue the Sunday Par 3 Ladies’ Scramble which will play its part in helping beginners and intermediate players gain confidence as well as offering more experienced players the opportunity to improve their short game.
Transition from the Par 3 Course to the Championship Course is a big leap in skill level that needs support and continuous encouragement from our more experienced players and “Buddy” golf events will continue to be very much part of the calendar.
Please remember that Sian and I are elected by you, the ladies, and therefore have your interests at heart as a priority. Please feel free to talk to us about any issues you may have so that we can work with you to make your membership the best experience possible.
